FROM THE NZOMBE BROTHERS TO THE RUPIYA BROTHERS

BANKET United are a club which, in their glory days, were powered by two brothers Simba and Shepherd Nzombe.

The two brothers were the heartbeat of this club when they knocked on the doors for a place in the domestic Premiership in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s.

Simba, who is a veteran headmaster, is now the chairman of Banket United.

The Mashonaland West club are still in Division One and are today truly a community side which are bankrolled by members of their hometown.

One of those benefactors are businessman Blessing Joseph.

While Banket United are no longer the force they used to be in the ‘80s, they are still competitive and are being driven by another pair of brothers.

This time it’s the Rupiya brothers – Anrod and Archie.

Their father, Francis Rupiya, is the head coach at Division Two side Chakari United.

Anrod was the toast of the Banket community on Wednesday when he scored the priceless winning goal in their 1-0 win over Lloyd Mutasa’s MWOS FC.

Anrod’s goal came in the dying minutes of the game.

It has led some of the MWOS FC fans to start a “Mutasa Must Go” campaign although, to his credit, the former Dynamos coach has stabilised the Norton side.
