GANG NABBED EN-ROUTE TO ROBBERY SCENE

A FIVE-MEMBER gang of suspected armed robbers was busted on its way to stage a robbery and found in possession of dangerous explosives.

Trymore Mudyiwa, Isa Bwanali, Consisia Kambuzuma, Muchaziva Mufandauya and Clemence Mhondiwa was busted by police who believed they were in their way to commit a crime on June 22.

The gang was driving a red Toyota Raum along the New Chitungwiza Road towards Surface Industries.

The court heard that they were stopped by detectives from CID Homicide Harare who were on an operation .

Mudyiwa, who was the driver, complied and stopped after detectives identified themselves and explained the nature of the duty .

Upon searching the vehicle, policed recovered two pairs of catapults from a black satchel, four fuse explosives, 6 x Emex 70 dangerous explosives and 4 x catapult stones from a black satchel .

Further searches were done leading to the recovery of two iron bars, baton stick, torch, an okapi knife and a hammer.

Mufandauya is an ex convict, who was convicted of armed robbery in 2002, and served some time in prison.

The gang has been charged with unlawful possession of explosives, and possession of articles, for criminal use.

They appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi.
