Gem Boys miss out on top spot

MANICA Diamonds missed an opportunity to go top of the table after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Cranborne Bullets in a Castle Lager Premiership match at Sakubva yesterday.

The result meant the Gem Boys failed to match leaders Chicken Inn, who won 2-1 against Black Rhinos, on Saturday.

Johannes Nhumwa’s men are now second on the standings with 17 points, two behind the Gamecocks.

Elsewhere, Triangle beat struggling WhaWha 4-1 to move into the top four, with 16 points.

They have the same number of points with third-placed Dynamos, who have a superior goal difference. In other matches played around the country yesterday, Bulawayo Chiefs suffered a 1-2 defeat at the hands of visiting Harare City.

CAPS United and Highlanders settled for a 1-1 draw at the National Sports Stadium while Herentals won 2-0 at Tenax.

On Saturday, defending champions FC Platinum lost 0-1 to rivals Ngezi Platinum Stars.

Dynamos beat ZPC Kariba 2-0 while Bulawayo City and Yadah shared the spoils in a goalless draw.
