MARVELOUS NAKAMBA continued with his fine form for Aston Villa under new coach Steven Gerrard after posting a man-of-the match performance in their 2-1 win at Crystal Palace on Saturday.
The display saw Nakamba receiving praise from Gerrard, who described the Zimbabwean as ‘massive’.
The Warriors star made four big tackles, one interception, two clearances, one key pass, one successful dribble and completed 33 passes – a performance that saw him rated 9 and voted man-of the match.
“Massive,” said Gerrard when asked about Nakamba’s performance.
Villa fans have likened Nakamba to world-class midfielders like Michael Essien and Claude Makelele, tipping him to start in their next assignment against Manchester City.
“Villa’s standout performer in the first half as he won possession back at will.
The Zimbabwean oozed confidence with the ball at his feet as well, sending in crisp passes to those in front of him. Nakamba nipped in well to thwart Benteke.
Nakamba simply took the sting out of anything Palace tried to do. Superb once again and undroppable against City on Wednesday. 9,” reported Birmingham Live.
It is Nakamba’s second start under Gerrard who appear to have entrusted the faith in him at the base of the three midfield.
Nakamba has also been praised for his positional discipline which will likely see him getting the nod especially against Manchester City on Wednesday.
The former Club Brugge player gave the defence a shield as John McGinn and Aaron Ramsey stepped up to give the team an attacking edge.
“You and I know clean sheets are your base. We want to control the game out of possession. The players are listening,”
commented Gerrard on players obeying his game plan.
