EVANS Gwekwerere is making full use of his US$17 000 windfall he received from his former employers Dynamos – he has paid lobola for his wife Natasha Kaira Green and the couple is now having a honeymoon in South Africa.
The former football star and his wife have been having their honeymoon in Gauteng, including checking into an apartment at the Blyde Riverwalk Estate.
The Estate is owned by Balwin, one of South Africa’s largest property companies, and it is a giant exclusive residential development in Pretoria which boasts of its own private beach.
It boasts of 200 short-term rental apartments and more than 900 owner-occupied long-term rented apartments.
It has been described as a “water-lover’s paradise, a one-of-a-kind lifestyle estate with a crystal-clear sustainable lagoon for water sports.”
Gwekwerere and Natasha have been having the time of their lives on the estate and have been teasing their followers on social media with videos of their honeymoon.
“Me and my lovely hubby,” reads a caption on one of the photos posted by Natasha on her social media pages.
Sources told H-Metro yesterday:
“Evans is making full use of the jackpot he received from his former employers and he has already paid lobola for his wife and the couple flew out to South Africa for their honeymoon.
“Even though the couple have been together for some time, there were still some formalities which needed to be completed and the payment of lobola was one of them. It was creating some issues between the two because of family pressures and even though the two are madly in love it forced Natasha to move back with her parents at some stage.
“But, that has now been settled after the payment of the lobola and they decided they needed some space, just the two of them, and they chose South Africa.
“Evans has worked in South Africa before, when he was a footballer and he has many friends in that country and the destination was an easy choice.”
Gwekwerere was paid US$17 000 of the US$27 000 debt which was owed to him by Dynamos.
The debt almost crippled the Glamour Boys’ return to the CAF inter-club trenches where they will play in the Confederation Cup this season. Dynamos needed to settle their case with Gwekwerere before they could be issued with the greenlight to play in the second-tier CAF competition.
Gwekwerere claimed his former employers owed him US$27 000 after different stints at the club.
With the help of the Football Union of Zimbabwe, he approached CAF, who were ready to block the Glamour Boys from taking part in the Confederation Cup.
Before the granting of a license, the following elements are considered at each club — sporting infrastructure, personnel and administrative, legal and financial.
Clubs have to prove they have no disputes, related to the overdue payments, in order to comply with the CAF men´s club licensing regulations.
FUZ confirmed the developments.
“In the matter of Evans Gwekwerere, represented by FUZ vs Dynamos, whereas FUZ filed a claim before the Ministry of Labour about the unlawful termination of the contract.
“The decision was passed in favour of the player at the Labour Court in 2017.
“In 2-18, the High Court of Zimbabwe upheld the Labour Court decision in favour of Gwekwerere.
“Dynamos did not pay the amount ordered by the High Court. FUZ’s request for payment over the years was ignored by the club.
“Non-payment of a binding decision by a competent authority is a serious CAF Club Licensing Regulation violation.
“FUZ initiated and requested CAF, through the ZIFA Club Licensing manager, to impose a ban on Dynamos FC from participating in CAF competitions citing overdue payables towards Evans Gwekwerere.”
Sources said Gwekwerere is a very happy man right now.
“It’s good just to see Evans and Natasha being this happy given all the challenges they have faced in the past.”
Two years ago Natasha was ordered by the High Court to pay $1 million in damages for snatching the former Dynamos forward from his first wife.
Gwekwerere’s ex-wife, Makanyara Mafunga, made the claims at the High Court where she accused Natasha of having an adulterous affair with the former Warriors striker. In her papers, Makanyara stated that she married Gwekwerere under the Marriages Act (Chapter 5:11) on November 1, 2020, and the marriage still subsists.
Makanyara claims she found out that Gwekwerere was dating Natasha only three weeks into their marriage.
Natasha did not enter her appearance to defend the summons or file a plea to stop the action.
Makanyara’s marriage was not blessed with a child, but Natasha and Gwekwerere have been blessed with two kids.
