A GREAT Zimbabwe University student, who was reported missing from the Mashava campus on Wednesday, was found dead in his room yesterday morning in a suspected case of suicide.
Tatenda Mhunga, who was doing his second year in Musicology, was found with a slit throat.
Students, who were gathered outside Tatenda’s room, said he had been suffering from depression.
“On Saturday we saw him drunk at the roundabout where he boarded a bus with us heading to an all-night worship conference in town.
“He led the singing and participated in the conference despite being drunk,” said one student.
Another student, who knew Tatenda from the campus band, said his roommate, who is a pastor, had locked him in the room to prevent him from harming himself.
“We were practising to perform at the graduation and he was our guitarist.
“If only we knew that he was depressed, we would have sought help for him.
“I only got to hear about it after his roommate had locked him in the room because he was drunk.
“Little did he know he was going to kill himself,” he said.
