HARARE CITY volleyball team manager Godknows Jembere is targeting to win both the Harare Volleyball Association and the Zimbabwe National league titles in their respective male and female categories.
The men’s team emerged winners of the Harare Volleyball Association (HVA) 2019 Open Tournament held in March.
Both the men and women’s teams will be participating at this year’s edition of the Zone VI Championship scheduled for December in Malawi.
Speaking to H-Metro, Jembere said they were aiming to do better this year.
“For the 2019 season, we are targeting to work on both the Harare and the National leagues as well as going to the Zone VI scheduled for Malawi end of year.
“We are expecting to come out on position four and below for us to qualify for the Africa cup championships,” he said.
The Citizens last year went a gear higher winning the Zimbabwe Open Championship titles for both men and women during the finals they hosted at the City Sports Centre last month.
Jembere said winning means they are moving in the right track.
“We did go for a review for this year and the coaches promised to have a podium position on all tournaments we are going to participate so coming up on number one means we are in the right direction.
“We have been in existence for two years and we have been winning gold in three consecutive so yes surely we are making history for the club.
“Also not forgetting that it is a motivation because we are lardy seeing results in the initial stages of the season. Hence, it’s a great motivation both to the coaches and players,” he said.
He also mentioned that the teams will have friendlies ahead of the Zone VI tourney.
“We are planning to have some international friendlies to prepare our teams for the Zone VI but we are still working on the dates but definitely in August.
“It has been something that we always wanted and I am glad that we are finally going to do it.”
