A Harare cellphone dealer allegedly duped a businesswoman by giving her appliances of a less value than she had paid for.

Franco Gonda was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi.

The court heard that sometime in April, the complainant, Sarah Hwingwiri, contacted Gonda looking for a Samsung S21 Ultra and an HP Envy x360 2 laptop to buy for her child.

Gonda told Hwingwiri that the gadgets cost US$1 740.

She told him to deliver them to Shamiso Masango at her office in Milton Park and collect his money.

The State said instead of delivering the ordered laptop and cellphone, Gonda delivered appliances of less value to Masango, who paid him US$1 740 as instructed by Hwingwiri.

Hwingwiri asked Gonda to bring the correct gadgets, which he promised to do.

He later became evasive and all efforts to contact him were in vain, prompting Hwingwiri to file a police report.
