Harare City Council has set up a strategic team tasked with organising revenue collection in seven identified areas.
In statement, Harare City Council said as part of transformation and work culture change council wants to improve systems, standards and controls.
“Council wants to supplement the rates account and cushion ratepayers from rates increases through financial innovation and strategic thinking that maximises on new revenue streams and revival of old streams that had become redundant or were not performing optimally
“The council’s seven areas are markets, leases, business licenses, regularisation of informal settlements, regularisation of structures in built up areas, land sales and cost containment measures,” read the statement posted on Facebook page.
Council said the teams which were appointed after the city’s management devised viable revenue enhancement strategies are expected to improve systems, standards and controls.
“The team leaders do not work in the sectors that they lead so as to inject energy and fresh thinking.
“Health Services director Dr Prosper Chonzi is the strategic leader for markets, Acting Chamber Secretary Charles Kandemiri (leases), Housing and Community Services director Addmore Nhekairo (business licensing), Acting Harare Water director Engineer Mabhena Moyo (regularisation of informal settlements), Acting Human Capital director Retired Major Matthew Marara (regularisation of structures in built up areas), Acting Finance director Stanely Ndemera (cost containments) and Richard Chigerwe (bill collections),” council added.
