Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development has called upon all Ministries to be involved in empowering and emancipating women so as to have gender equality at workplaces.
In a Beijing +25National Validation Workshop Meeting held in Harare yesterday, gender activists were urged to do something to ensure that women benefit something from their working places.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community Medium and Small Enterprise Development Ambassador Rudo Chitiga said the Ministries should have a common set of tools to help us report what we have been doing in gender mainstreaming.
“There is need to evaluate and copy what other ministries have done in terms of mainstreaming gender.
“Women’s voices are not quite heard and represented, therefore we are pushing for women’s numbers and collection to be high,” she said.
Ambassador Chitiga added that there is strong need to mainstream gender for better girls and women.
Speaking at the same workshop, director of Women Affairs Tariro Chipepera said the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and Child Warfare should be applauded for engaging the STEM and BEAM which are helping the girl child to emancipate themselves.
Chipepera said women are considered to be in positions.
She added that if the director is a male, the Deputy Director should be female so as to have gender balance.
“Women looked down upon each other and take most of their votes to men instead of empowering each other,” she said.
