HBA season explodes

21 September 2018

…Afro Club Championship preps begin

HARARE City Hornets chairman Lungisani Mbofana believes the start of the Harare Basketball Association 2018-19 season this Saturday will provide them with the necessary preparation for FIBA Africa Champions Cup Zone Six preliminaries.

City Hornets -alongside Foxes, Vixens and Lakers- were selected by the Basketball Union of Zimbabwe (BUZ) to represent the nation at the FIBA Africa Champions Cup Zone Six preliminaries set for the ZITF Hall in Bulawayo from October 21-29.

Mbofana confirmed their participation adding that his City Hornets will bring their A-game building from lessons learnt from their debut appearance last season.

“Harare City Hornets men will be attending the Zone 6 Club Championships for the second time now.

“With experience gained from last year in Botswana, I can promise the Zimbabwean basketball lovers we will not disappoint.”

It’s exactly a month from now before the Africa Champions Cup Zone Six preliminaries start and its sufficient time for Zimbabwe’s four representatives to put themselves in the best mode for taking on some of Southern Africa’s top clubs.

Therefore, the HBA season start wouldn’t have come at a better time for City Hornets, Foxes and Vixens.

The commencement of the HBA season will be a prefect dress rehearsal for the Africa Champions Cup Zone Six preliminaries.

Tomorrow, City Hornets open their campaign against bogey side Glen View Rockets while HBA defending champions Foxes are up against University of Zimbabwe (UZ) Stars with their ladies, Vixens, making out with Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT).

Mbofana stressed on need of making hay whilst the sun shines by utilising the HBA action to sharpen their skills.

“With the disclosure by BUZ that the team will be representing the nation together with Foxes simply means the preparations have began.

“We will not leave any stone unturned. Bulawayo is home turf and we will do all to leave a very big statement as a serious basketball club.”

Mbofana, who is also the HBA chairman, also conveyed his congratulatory message to Foxes, Vixens and Lakes.

“I will also take this opportunity to extend my hearty congratulations to all other Zimbabwean clubs.

“Foxes and Vixens who have the honor of both teams representing the nation. To SV and Lakers from Bulawayo we say congratulations,” he said.
