National Arts Council of Zimbabwe director, Nicholas Moyo, says Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi died before they could meet for an important discussion.
He said there was no need to mourn the legend but rather people ought to celebrate his legacy.
“On Wednesday I had an appointment with him at 12 noon but I had to make a U-turn when his wife told me that he was unwell.
“Two hours later, I was shocked to hear that he was no more.
“It’s a huge loss to the industry but we are celebrating his life,” he said.
Moyo hailed Tuku for his leadership and professionalism.
“Tuku served as the NACZ board member with distinction.
“He always wanted us to follow the will of the people in all the decisions we made as a board.
“This is the kind of leadership we wanted and we will dearly miss him.”
“He is a rare artiste who built his empire using the proceeds he got from music.
“We all know what he did to the sector as an artiste.”
