THE Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has predicted scattered thunderstorms in the country, warning members of the public against sheltering under trees and open spaces.
In a statement, the MSD said localised heavy rains were forecast in places along and to the north of the main watershed.
“Matabeleland North, Bulawayo Metropolitan, northern areas of the Midlands, Harare Metropolitan and all Mashonaland provinces expect mostly cloudy and humid with scattered thunderstorms and rain.
“The provinces of Masvingo, southern areas of Midlands, Matabeleland South and Manicaland should be cool at first, becoming warmer by afternoon, with sunny breaks and isolated thunderstorms and rain. Localised heavier falls are likely over high grounds.”
The MSD said flooded rivers remain a potential hazard.
“Heavy downpours may give rise to flash flooding leading to treacherous conditions. The public is advised to stay away from swollen rivers and not to drive through floodwaters as just 30cm of flowing water is enough to sweep away a vehicle. Clearance of waterways and drainages, ahead of time, helps reduce the impact of heavy rains,” said the MSD.
