. . . Warriors face Lesotho
GIANT goalkeeper, George Chigova was the hero last night when the Warriors dismissed stubborn Botswana 3-1 on penalties in Polokwane.
The match had ended 1-1 after 90 minutes before the lottery, where Chigova made three penalty saves.
Abbas Amidu, Jameson Mukombwe and Khama Billiat scored their spot kicks.
Zimbabwe will now face Lesotho while Zambia go into the other semi-final as favourites against tricky Madagascar.
Although penalties were not what Sunday Chidzambwa’s men had targeted, it helped Chigova show what he is capable of.
Evans Rusike had given the Warriors the lead in the 39th minute before Onkabetse Makgantai cancelled that in the second half, in the 60th minute.
Going into the tournament, Chigova had indicated that the competition from Edmore Sibanda and Talbert Shumba was forcing him to give more.
While Zimbabwe celebrated Chigova’s heroics, hosts South Africa had to accept the fact that they will again watch either Zambia or defending champions Zimbabwe winning the title again if they reach the final.
South Africa lost to Madagascar 4-3 on penalties.
