HOW MUCH ARE YOU GOING TO PAY ME? . . . Outrageous demand from man claiming to be Tuku’s son

THE man who claims to be the son of the late Oliver Mtukudzi brewed a shocker yesterday when he asked us: HOW MUCH ARE YOU GOING TO PAY ME?

H-Metro approached Aaron Chaka (45) for an interview after his pursuit to change his surname to Mtukudzi suffered a setback at the High Court.

Chaka is claiming he is the product of a romantic relationship between the late Tuku and his mother Rose Makumbe (69).

Godfrey Mukonowenzou Mtukudzi, the late Tuku’s younger brother, is backing Chaka’s claims that he is, indeed, his brother’s son.

Our sister newspaper, The Sunday Mail, revealed at the weekend that Chaka’s quest to change his surname had hit a snag.

Yesterday, Chaka said he was willing to do an interview if only there was something in return for him.

“Moda kundipa marii kuti ndikupei information chaiyo?” he said.

“What has been written in some parts of the media is not even true, I don’t even know who that person talked to but he did not talk to me.

“I am the one with all the necessary information, everything else that is being said is not true, I did not talk to anyone in regards to the paternity test.

‘How much are you going to pay me for an exclusive interview?”

Justice Fatima Chakapamambo Maxwell sided with the Registrar of Births and Deaths in the case in which Chaka wanted the latter to change the surname on his birth certificate to Mtukudzi.

The Registrar opposed the application saying the relief, which was being sought by Chaka, was actually the cancellation of the birth certificate and re-registration of the document.

“Wherefore, I pray that the applicant produces more concrete evidence in the form of a paternity test and authentic affidavits to prove that, indeed, the late Oliver Mtukudzi is his biological father, and not Josiah Chaka,” said the Registrar of Births and Deaths.

Justice Maxwell ruled that:

“Because of the anomalies in applicant’s papers, the request by the first respondent (Registrar) provides the way forward for the applicant.

“Once applicant obtains scientific confirmation that the late Oliver Mtukudzi is his biological father, he can approach the Registrar-General in terms of Section 8 of (Chapter 5:02), which provides for the correction of an error of fact or substance in the register.

“Applicant was, therefore, improperly before this court. The application is, therefore, struck off the roll with no order as to costs.”
