Huge turnout at celebrities’ football tourney

GWANZURA Stadium came to life on Sunday after a huge turnout at a football tournament that saw the country’s top musicians trading microphones for footy boots.

The event, organised by Pacific Storm, aimed to bring together people from all walks of life to enjoy a fun-filled day of football, music, food and socialising.

The atmosphere was electric as different teams, made of musicians, music producers, promoters and fans took to the field, playing with enthusiasm and sportsmanship.

The tournament was won by Vigilance FC walking away with a trophy and a prize money of US$1 000.

There were consolation prizes for other participants that included Freeman’s Gallis FC, King Shaddy’s Makorokoza FC and Zim Musicians which was captained by sungura musician Peter Moyo.

Before the celebrities’ showdown, four teams that were drawn from the country’s different provinces battled out, showcasing some good football skills.

The teams were part of a knockout tournament that was also sponsored by Pacific Storm throughout the country.

Pacific Storm Trade Marketing manager they organised the tournament with the idea of creating social cohesion and fighting a number of societal vices.

“It was a great initiative that we thought about as a business because we wanted young adults to come out and showcase their talents within their regions.

“And then to Harare here at Gwanzura was something commendable, we saw more than 12 teams playing, some of them celebrities and others coming from around the country.

“The tournament also aimed at keeping young adults busy and don’t experience some of the social ills they face daily.

“As a business, we are committed to continuing with such initiatives, among many other projects that we have held, among them bringing water to communities.

“The idea is to continue on that path and be able to change lives in different communities,” said Chiutsi.
