Tino Kadewere got the better of Marshal Munetsi in a Zimbabwean battle in the French Ligue 1 on Sunday.
Kadewere’s Lyon beat Munetsi’s Stade de Reims 3-0 to close the gap at the top of the standings to two points.
The result meant they have now gone for nine games without tasting defeat.
Les Gones – on 23 points – are trailing leaders PSG – 25 points – who were held to a 2-2 draw by Bordeaux Saturday night.
The Warriors stars were in the starting lineup for the two teams and Kadewere was withdrawn in the 60th minute.
Lyon went to the break leading 1-0 through a Toko Ekambi opener in the 22nd minute.
Kadewere came close to scoring only to be denied by the woodwork in the 31st minute.
He had his goal seven minutes later ruled out for offside.
Lyon dominated Reims and were rewarded when Bruno Guimaraes doubled the lead in the 49th minute.
Moussa Dembele who came on for Kadewere sealed the victory for the hosts 24 minutes to full time.
The match was hyped both in France and Zimbabwe pivoted on Kadewere and Munetsi.
The players spoke of their previous encounters in academy football as well as national team junior football.
Going into the match, Kadewere joked that he has been always on the victors’ side whenever he plays against Munetsi.
They are teammates at the Zimbabwe national team.
