ZESCO United’s Zimbabwe midfielder Thabani ‘Scara’ Kamusoko has explained the details behind his injury problems that kept him on the sidelines since last year.
In an EXCLUSIVE interview with H-Metro yesterday Kamusoko said, he is yet to fully recover from an ankle injury that saw him being operated.
The 31-year-old has not played competitively after picking an injury in a CAF Champions League encounter against five-time African Champions TP Mazembe in December.
And despite being given upto six weeks to recover by the doctors, Kamusoko has now revealed that his ankle remains in cast.
Frustratingly for the former FC Platinum player, it is almost six months nursing an injury that was predicted to heal in less than two months.
“I suffered this ankle injury in December last year and I have never kicked a ball since then.
“I underwent an operation and the doctors indicated that I will be out for six weeks and possibly with an additional two weeks to full recovery. But yeah it’s now close to six months; which is a frustration,” said Kamusoko.
He, however, suggested there are chances he could be fit by the time action resumes laying off fears that it might keep him away for a long spell.
The Warriors star said he has used the lockdown period to recover and has been in contact with the team doctors.
“The good thing is it’s shaping up, there is good progress because I am now doing serious workouts in consultation with doctors.
“I would say the lockdown has been an advantage to me, I capitalised on this coronavirus induced break to recover which I think worked well for me,” he said.
Kamusoko’s explanation came at a time there have been reports he was of late struggling to get game time at United.
And responding to the reports, Kamusoko said his injury setback was never communicated well and is not worried.
“As a player you don’t need to listen and think much about those reports. The important thing is I know what is happening and the club too. We can’t have a situation where I go out explaining why I am not playing,” he said.
Having bounced back to the Warriors setup at the 2019 Afcon finals, Kamusoko remains available for national duty.
He was not included in the Warriors team expected to face Algeria by coach Zdravko Logarusic but with no mention of the injury.
