Kariba resort town is a tourist and investment destination which needs to be marketed to attract more visitors, an official has said.

Face of Kariba, an organisation which is promoting Kariba as a tourist town through pageantry, arts and events is on a move to revive the resort area.

The organisation’s founder Alois Chimbangu said they had since revamped the organisation through the appointment of a new board meant to revive the concept with a new focus in line with the current needs of the town.

Chimbangu, said the latest development is a relaunch and refocus of the Face of Kariba (FOK) launched in 2014 as a beauty pageant.

“We founded the Face of Kariba Trust in 2014 in tandem with the tourism drive aimed at marketing Kariba and the country as a safe tourist destination.

“Our new focus now is multifaceted to include exhibitions, sports, competitions and use of celebrities and opinion leaders in promoting Kariba as a tourist resort and business destination.

“The role of the board’s new focus will involve working with many partners from different areas and endeavours.

“The board members will be the point people in all the interactions playing an advisory role in ensuring the best outcome for Kariba and attract more tourists,” he said.

Chimbangu, who is also Northern Tours and Cruises Company’s managing director, said the board members will periodically guide the programmes as well as attending events and exhibitions.

“We have appointed the new board members who are currently working on one thing or another in for Kariba and we believe the many programmes that we will engage in will not only naturally benefit the resort, but also the members.

“The guiding principle in assembling this team is that we all have the energy, focus and desire to see Kariba back on its slot of being a key destination for tourism and investment.

“We also believe that the world today has gone digital and as such it’s going to make the best use of digital technology to market Kariba,” he added.

The newly elected members are Maxton Kanhema, founder member Alois Chimbangu, Chairperson/investment Secretary – Jacob Parich deputised by Melisa Chigwada, secretary general is Yeukai Chogurwei deputised by Tichaona Mahachi, public relations officer is Believe Marufu and his deputy is Prince Ngwenya. The secretary for Legal Affairs is Toendepi Mahaso, secretary for finance is Anywhere Sibanje, admin secretary is Danmore Kaocha and deputised by Rosewinter Mashonga.

Kariba is among the country’s tourism industry centres with its main attractions being water-based — fishing, game-viewing and house-boating — being the most popular activities.
