TWO National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) officers, who are accused of accepting bribes, have appeared in court charged with criminal abuse of office.

Progress Maponde and Milton Kadzumba were arraigned before Chinhoyi Magistrate, Tamari Chibindi, and were denied bail.

They were remanded in custody to February 2.

Prosecutor Review Nikisi told the court the two, who are based in Karoi, allegedly solicited for a US$100 bribe from Difference Kondo, who is a relative of one Author Chikwerengwe, who is facing stock theft charges.

Maponde and Kadzumba are alleged to have received the money on the pretext they would ensure Chikwerengwe would receive a lenient sentence.

A report was filed at Karoi Police Station leading to the arrest of the duo.
