WARRIORS captain Ovidy Karuru has thanked the Ministry of Sport, Arts and Recreation for appreciating the national team’s COSAFA victory.
Karuru’s statement came after the ministry pledged $1000 for each player who participated at the just ended COSAFA tournament.
On Monday a dinner was hosted to celebrate the victory, acknowledge Mighty Warriors achievements and other individual athletes who excelled within their respective sporting disciplines.
“We have won several matches and tournaments, but no one has bothered to give us this kind of appreciation.
“I would like to thank our government and the ministry for what they have done for us.
“This kind of gesture motivates us, and it is my wish to keep on witnessing such kind of love from our government,” Karuru said.
COSAFA squad captain added that the gesture has motivated them to do their best in the AFCON qualifiers scheduled for later this year.
“We know our people love and support us, but to realise that even the government is behind us gives us the zeal to do our best.
“We have the AFCON qualifiers ahead of us, and I would like to promise our people that we will qualify.
“We have already started to prepare for the AFCON qualifiers and that was the reason why our coach Sunday Chidzambwa brought in the foreign players at the just ended COSAFA tournament,” he said.
