KAIZER Chiefs midfielder Willard Katsande says he is not worried about his contract situation and currently focused on the CAF Champions League.
Katsande’s contract expires at the end of the month and his future remains uncertain at a club he called home for a decade.
However, the Zimbabwean said the focus is on their Champions League semifinals clash against Wydad AC this month.
“For now I’m not thinking about my contract. The most important thing is the semi-final which is ahead of us and we’re putting our blood and sweat to actually be prepared and win this game and go to the final.
“For the contract we will talk when the season ends but for now I’m happy that we managed to finish the season on a high and that we managed to be in the top eight though it’s not good enough to finish on number eight.
“But the thing is it gives you an early opportunity to fight for an early cup which is the MTN 8. Yes, we might be number eight but who knows maybe next season we will champions and then you realise that we should’ve treated the last games with respect like the way we did.
“So now we are okay because we managed to put the team in top eight and that’s the most important thing, “he said.
Katsande did not have a good season under Gavin Hunt and managed to start in 10 out of 16 appearances.
Back-to-back wins in the final two matches meant that Kaizer Chiefs finished eighth in the South African Premiership with 36 points in 30 games.
“Yes of course you know obviously when you finish on number eight it’s not a good season as a collective and as an individual also.
“But for me I’m quite okay on how I contributed whenever I was added to just chip in. I always gave my best to the team and people could see the difference.
“But overall as a team we are not happy with the situation we are in and the season we had. So we just want to forget about it and better it up with the Champions league.
“So we are trying to do our level best to get into the final and win something for the team. We want to go beyond semifinal.
“So we are sharpening our swords and doing everything we can, including videos analysis to attain every detail so that when we go to matches we will be knowledgeable and it’s going to help us to achieve to get to the final,” he said.
