LEGENDARY musician, Alexio Kawara made a sensational return to showbiz with his Kuchina Reunion gig on Friday night.
The Shaina hit-maker silenced his doubting Thomases when he delivered a majestic act at the Zimbabwe Germany Society in Milton Park, Harare.
Despite taking a sabbatical to focus on his ministry work, Kawara proved he still had what it takes to win hearts with both new and old compositions.
Backed by a star-studded band, the Afro jazz or Afro fusion artist is now reaping the fruits of his initiative, with plans to hold a series of shows countrywide.
Kawara’s evolution and rare combination of skills as a gifted composer, mbira player and vocalist cement his place as a true legend and influencer in the industry.
There were also genuine fears he would quit music and live performances, but Kawara made a sensational U-turn.
He belted out sing-along tracks such as Musikana Akanaka, Chihwandehwande, Nyaya Yerudo, Shaina, Tinodanana and Leonard Dembo’s all-time classic, Chitekete.
His presentation aptly summed up the journey he travelled from the urban grooves’ era.
Now comfortable as an Afro jazz or Afro fusion artist, Kawara keeps on evolving.
Kawara attracted some of showbiz gurus, including broadcasters, music promoters and socialites.
Dub poet, Albert Nyathi, and his trusted lieutenant, Dereck Mpofu, graced the event.
Kodos go to Kawawa’s manager and confidante, Roy Zuka, who put together a fantastic show.
“We are happy that people still love Alexio and this will give us the desire to do more shows.
“Alexio has explained why he had taken a sabbatical and his fans understood him, and today they came in numbers.
“We can only promise more polished shows because he still has a following. Alexio is a legend and influencer who has been in the game for years,” he said.
With summer approaching, Kawara is expected to hold a series of shows countrywide as he continues to revive his career.
