ZPC Kariba goalkeeper, Hamilton Makainganwa, was the hero with a brilliant day in the office to help his team escape with a point at Rufaro yesterday.
Makainganwa made a string of saves.
Leeroy Murape gave the visitors a 39th minute lead with a superb solo effort.
But Makepekepe kept pressing and were deservedly rewarded with the equaliser when defender Hastings Chapusha headed the ball home from Godknows Murwira’s free-kick soon aftrr the restart.
Ralph Kawondera’s shot from the edge of the box had Makainganwa at full stretch to tip the ball over the cross bar in the 28th minute.
Another elementary error by skipper Boid Mutukure almost gifted Makepekepe with an opportunity but the ZPC Kariba goalkeeper was quick off the line to thwart the danger.
The keeper was also called back into action in the 37th minute when he parried out Wayne Makuva’s blistering long range effort.
Makepekepe were punished for missing the chances when Murape blocked Innocent Zambezi’s back pass just after the centre line and sprinted towards goal.
The dimunitive foward stomed into the Green Machine penalty box, turned his marker before unleashing a powerful grounder that gave ‘keeper Ashley Reyners no chance.
Murape could have made it two before the breather following a defensive mix up in the Green Machine Box but he skied his shot.
But there was nothing the ZPC Kariba ‘keeper could have done to preserve their lead after CAPS United Murwira delivered the ball into a delicated area and Hastings Chapusha planted a firm header at the back post to level matters in the 49th minute.
Makangainwa made another good save when he went down and stopped a low shot from Kawondera midway through the second half.
Makepekepe then gave Junior Bunjira his debut in the 78th minute and the young forward made some flashes during the cameo.
