WARRIORS’ midfielder Khama Billiat will be delay joining camp.
Billiat is nursing an ankle injury sustained in their 2-2 league draw against Maritzburg United last week.
It was for that reason he missed the clubs last match of the season against Highlands Park.
Billiat is in Norman Mapeza’s plans for a June 11 tie against Liberia but he is likely to delay his arrival.
Warriors’ manager Wellington Mupandare clarified that Khama’s delay had nothing to do with an alleged Warriors’ snub.
“It’s my understanding that he has an injury.
“Khama injured his toe and he is receiving treatment. We received a notification from his club and its official. His club is also playing in the CAF Champion’s League and they might hold on to him until the weekend. It’s unlike the alleged snub rumour that has been going around,”Mupandare said.
Mupandare said they do not want create any more anxiety for Billiat.
“We don’t want this issue to be blown out of proportion. We want to avoid an unnecessary noise over him. Remember what happened to him following his delay for the AFCON camp in January?”
Mupandare added Onismor Bhasera and Knowledge Musona are expected to join camp later due to club commitments.
“We only have two players who will be playing official games this week. Musona has a game on the 31st of this month whilst Bhasera is set to play a CAF Champions League game,” Mupandare added.
The Warriors are in Group G with DR Congo, Congo and Liberia and begin the campaign at home against Liberia before travelling to Congo-Brazzaville.
The first game will be played next month with the rest of the qualifiers scheduled for 2018.
Only table toppers, the host and three second best placed sides will make the finals in Cameroon.
