POPULAR Zim dancehall chanter, King Shaddy – real name Shadreck Kwarire – was on Tuesday appointed brand ambassador for the Zvishavane-based Record label, Verenga Empire Entertainment Studio.
The Makanika singer was yesterday over the moon when he broke the news to this publication.
In an interview, King Shaddy said:
“I have been made brand ambassador of the record label Verenga Empire Studio.
“I am the happiest artiste in the country right now because my music is being appreciated by various music stakeholders and fans.
“I will continue to deliver more entertaining stuff and I promise to keep fans on their toes throughout the year.”
“Nowadays I am spending most of my time in Zvishavane and I am confident my fellow musicians will work with us at the new studio.
“Over the weekend, I performed in Masvingo and the turnout was overwhelming.”
In another interview, Farai Verenga, who is the owner of the stable, said:
“As Verenga Empire Entertainment Studio we want to give musicians an opportunity to showcase their talent.
“I have worked for Gramma Records as a sound engineer and I worked with renowned musicians like Alick Macheso, Hosea Chipanga and the late Tongai Moyo among others.
“Now that I am based in Dubai, my heart and soul are still in Zimbabwe, I want our music to reach international market.
“We have appointed King Shaddy to be our brand ambassador because he has been in the dancehall genre before it was even popular.
“It will not be fair if we don’t acknowledge his services in the formation of the genre that has surpassed all the genres in the country.
“Zim dancehall music is now firmly established as a distinct genre of popular music in Zimbabwe because its music resonates with the day to day life experience of young people in the ghetto.”
Meanwhile, King Shaddy is working on his sixth album titled Legend in Action due for release soon.
To date, he has five albums to his credit namely Makanika, Jack Bauer, Mercilless, Mr Magoo and Gosongo.
