KLOPP’S WARM REACTION AS NYONI BREAKS RECORDS

LIVERPOOL coach Jurgen Klopp had a wholesome reaction as he prepared to bring on potential Warriors star Trey Nyoni in a history-making substitution on Wednesday night.

Klopp watched on as his side triumphed 3-0 over Southampton in their FA Cup fifth round clash —with Jayden Danns and Lewis Koumas finding the net to wrap up a win.

A number of Liverpool’s youngsters were given a run out at Anfield — given the Reds’ mounting injury concerns — with 16-year-old Nyoni included among them

Nyoni was brought into the action in the 78th minute and, in doing so, became the youngest player to ever feature in the FA Cup for Liverpool.

You could tell it was a big moment, not only for Nyoni but also for Klopp, who had a wide grin drawn across his face as he prepared to bring the youngster on.

Footage from ITV’s broadcast showed Klopp placing an arm around the teenager, laughing and patting him on the back before Nyoni entered the pitch.

At 16 years, eight months and eight days, Nyoni beat the record held by Harvey Elliott — who was the player he replaced on the night.

Elliott had previously held the record after making an appearance in their 2020 FA Cup win over Everton, when he was 16 years, nine months and one day old.

‘It is a little bit like the new darts sensation, it is fine for tonight,’ said Klopp.

‘Tomorrow, leave the boys in the corner. Everyone who is with us, we should have our moments, they will have more moments than we expect.

‘Don’t forget it when the transfer window opens, don’t (ask for) 12 signings!’

Despite playing for 15 minutes, Nyoni was rated highly on various football platforms with a majority giving him a 6/10 rating.
