Commuter omnibus operators have confirmed that they are not moved by the new ZUPCO fares.
The development comes after ZUPCO slashed bus fares by 50 percent on May 20.
One of the commuter omnibus operators, Nelson Simbirai said kombis respond to the demands of a time conscious urban population without following a schedule as compared to buses.
“We are not worried about the new Zupco fares, people use kombis because they are reliable, efficient and faster.
“Ukangobuda mumba unonzwa town here, it is a different issue when you want to use a bus. You can’t use a bus when you are late for work, you use a kombi instead, kombis are reliable that’s a fact,” he said.
“Some people prefer Zupcos, some kombis, so those who prefer kombis will support us.
Simbirai said due to high population in Harare and the number of Zupcos operating, some commuters will be forced to use kombis.
“Kombis were introduced long back to complement the Zupcos because the population in Harare was very high.
“Madeals anoitwa mutown so everyone relies on kombis to commute on a daily basis,” said Simbirai.
