A GLEN NORAH landlady and her daughter have appeared in court after they allegedly beat up a tenant over outstanding water bills.
Rhoda Hwiridza, 53, and Theresa Mapfumo, 33, denied the allegations when they appeared before Mbare magistrate Elizabeth Magomore charged with assault.
In her defence, Rhoda said when she inquired about the money for water bills from her tenant Nommater Mangofa, she insulted her.
This then angered her daughter Theresa who asked the tenant why she was exchanging harsh words with her mother, it is alleged.
The magistrate asked Rhoda if her story makes sense.
“Does your story makes sense that your tenant insulted you because you asked money for water bills?” asked the magistrate.
Circumstances are that on October 5 last year, Rhoda and Theresa approached Nommater and told her to move out of their house.
A misunderstanding rose between the two, which resulted in Theresa beating up Nommater together with Prince Hwiridza, who is still at large.
They then took away Nommater’s kitchen table and chairs and threw them away.
A complaint was lodged with the police leading to the duo’s arrest.
The trial continues today.
