A HARARE lawyer appeared in court facing accusations of knocking and injuring a senior female citizen along Mutare Road.
Farayi Ruzive appeared at the Harare magistratesâ€™ court charged with negligent driving.
Ruzive, who is a licensed driver, is standing accused knocking and injuring Miriam Palas aged 77.
He denied the charges when he appeared before magistrate Nomsa Sabarauta.
â€œOn or about 19th of November 2015 at around 1000hrs accused was driving his Toyota Sprinter Reg. No.ADN 9396 to Marondera along Mutare Road at a speed of between 50-55km/hr.
â€œThe complainant suddenly appeared from the right side which was the inner lane without even looking out for vehicles before crossing the road.
â€œAs accused was driving in the inner lane, the complainant was obstructed from his right by traffic in the inner lane.
â€œSuddenly noticing the complainant accused swerved his car to the left side of the road in trying to avoid an accident which was imminent.
â€œIn the process complainant then bumped into the right of the fender and the driver door. Had it not been that accused is a good driver, he could have hit the complainant and killed her on the spot,â€ he said in his defence.
The State led by Devoted Gwashavanhu-Nyagano had it that on November 9 last year at around 10am Ruzive was driving his car along Mutare Road when the 77-year-old was crossing the road.
Ruzive is said to have hit her resulting in her sustaining a fractured foot.
The accident was taken to the police ending up with Ruzive being taken to court.
He is expected to return to court on July 19 for trial continuation.
