A Harare lawyer has been charged with fraud for allegedly receiving a fake conversion certificate despite failing his conversion exams.

Elijah Kudzai Mbiriri was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa, who granted him US$200 bail.

Mbiriri, a legal assistant at Kajokoto and Company, graduated from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in Kenya with a Bachelor of Laws degree in 2017.

However, he had to attain a certificate of conversions with the Council for Legal Education to practise law in Zimbabwe.

Mbiriri only wrote five out of the required eight modules and passed just two, but Huggins Duri, who is still at large, instructed Fidelity Printers and Refiners via email to print a certificate of completion for Mbiriri.

The certificate was processed and collected by Duri, who gave it to Mbiriri.
