SUNGURA kingpin Alick Macheso is set to perform in Cape Town for the first time in more than four years with a special show at Wynberg Civic Centre Hall on September 3.
Macheso, who commands huge crowds whenever he performs across the Limpopo, last performed in Cape Town in 2017.
And, after several calls by his fans in the port city, Macheso has taken heed.
The show, courtesy of South Africa-based promotion company Big League Entertainment, is going to be a family show.
According to the promoters, the idea is to accommodate families and give all fans an opportunity to see their star in action.
“Macheso hasn’t been in Cape Town for a long time. There is a significant number of Zimbabweans in Cape Town and with the genre Macheso plays, which is unique, we are definitely confident that there will be huge crowds.
“After several calls and pleas by fans in that area to see their star in action, we saw it good to fulfil their wishes,” said Kuda Thula of Big League Entertainment.
He also explained the concept behind the show since Macheso is known for performing night shows in South Africa.
“Having Macheso playing on a Sunday, which is a family day, we expect and anticipate the young ones to take an interest in Macheso’s music.
“We have a dying generation that has an interest in western music and equally, artists of Macheso’s calibre are few in between generations. We have to keep his genre of music going with pride.
“The show also coincides with a double birthday celebration of Big League Entertainment management, that is myself Kuda Thula and Thiago Manake, and we are also promising fire works,” said Thula.
