Comedienne and musician, Mai TT, led UK-based businessman Gilbert Kandiado of Gilbert Facilities Limited to Chikurubi Female Prison, where he donated early Christmas goodies and provided lunch for 257 inmates.
Mai TT, who was accompanied by her friends and children, previously served time in the prison and reconnected with former inmates, including Idah, who is serving one of the longest sentences in the prison for murder.
Gilbert promised to clean several prisons after learning about the challenges faced by inmates from Mai TT, including those faced by expectant mothers and babies living in the prison with their mothers.
“I run a cleaning company and that company will make sure some of the prisons are clean.
“I want to thank Mai TT for sharing with me some of the challenges faced by inmates.
“Among the challenges she told me are the challenges faced by babies with their mothers in prison, inmates not receiving visitors at all and expecting mothers,” said Gilbert.
Among the inmates were seven babies, eight expecting mothers, 45 foreigners, and 133 had not yet received their sentences.
Jah Master also performed for the inmates, leaving them wanting more time with Mai TT.
