A 28-YEAR-OLD man from Chitungwiza has been sentenced to eight months in jail after he was convicted of attempting to steal money which he claims he wanted to use to search for his father.

Tafadzwa Chigangaidze said he has never met his father and wanted to try and find him.

He was sentenced to one-year imprisonment of which four months were suspended on the condition that he doesn’t commit a similar offence in the next five years.

It was proved that on October, 27, Tafadzwa was arrested after he broke into Emmanuel Jack’s shop.

He entered the shop through the roof.

A guard, who was on duty, saw a candlelight inside the shop and Tafadzwa was found hiding behind packs of tissues after a search by the police.

“I wanted to get money so that l can search for my father since l do not know him,” Tafadzwa told the magistrate.

He said he was of no fixed abode and he spends his time selling bananas on the streets.
