A 26 year-old Mabvuku man was on Saturday found hanging in his bedroom after having clashed with his mother over a cellphone.

He demanded that his mother leave her mobile phone with him since she was travelling to South Africa.

According to his uncle John Rasta, Romeo was drunk when he came home, and prepared food before hanging himself.

“I am really affected,” said Rasta.

“Kuti inyaya yephone chete here kana ndezvimwewo?” he said in tears.

Residents were quick to accuse Romeo of taking illicit drugs.

“It’s drugs and nothing else.

“Romeo’s life has been destroyed by drug dealers dotted around this area.

“Sometimes you would see him running away from things he said he was seeing which no one else could see.

“We are appealing to the police to go a step further in bringing all the drug dealers to book.

“They know their dark places where these drugs are found and we know the dealers around Mabvuku,” said one of the residents.

Romeo’s mother was advised of his death after arriving in Masvingo as she was returning home from South Africa.

She could not be drawn into giving her side of the story.

Romeo’s body was collected by police and taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem.
