A Harare man has demanded DNA tests to ensure he is taking care of his biological child.
Nepal Mudzoki was taken to court by his ex-wife, Rebecca Guwa, who was seeking an upward variation from $10 000 to $200 000 for the upkeep of their child.
Nepal offered $50 000 instead.
“We were granted $10 000, but every month I have been giving her more than that. I am the one who has been paying fees and I will continue. I want to go for a DNA test since I have been facing resistance from the mother,” he told the court.
Rebecca rejected the offer.
“The money is too little. Our child is 17 years now and requires a lot. I am the one who has been paying fees, he only paid fees twice.
“I call him several times asking him to pay fees, but he just asks for details and never pays,” said Rebecca.
She refused to go for a DNA test.
“Ever since our child started school, he has never bought stationery or uniforms.
“He does not even buy clothes and I don’t know what he thinks his child is wearing. He gives me $40 000 and expects me to pay fees, buy food, clothes and uniforms.
“I refused to go for DNA tests because he wanted us to go where he has connections. I told him let’s go to Lancet,” said Rebecca.
Magistrate Dhlamini granted an upward variation to $60 000 in addition to school fees and purchase of uniforms twice a year.
