A local shipping logistics company manager has been ordered to pay US$500 to a woman he had promised to marry but wasted her time instead. Mugwagwa Gumunyu of Kuwadzana 6 appeared before Chief Nheweyembwa in Murehwa on Saturday where Eunice Hunda demanded compensation for being promised marriage. Despite being a married man, Gumunyu had a relationship with Hunda, a security guard at the company where he was a manager.
Hunda said that she had lost almost US$2 000 when she gave him small amounts of money for the years they dated. Two other workmates were said to be in the same position.
He was also fined a goat for contempt of court.
Mugwagwa had questioned why he was appearing before Chief Nheweyembwa when he is from Masvingo.
The chief responded:
“Tinodakuziva kuti iwe Mugwagwa Gumunyu wekuMasvingo wakatenderwa nani kubva Masvingo kuuya kuzodanana nemwanasikana wekwa Murehwa uchisiya veMasvingo.
“Mubvunzo wako ndewekushora dare nekudaro unofanira kuripa nembudzi.”
Soon after the chief’s ruling, Mugwagwa told Eunice that their affair was over.
“Hanzi hushamwari hwedu hwaperera pano nekuti aripiswa namambo,” said Eunice.
Eunice claimed that Mugwagwa had been lying about his marital status, claiming to have been dumped by his wife.
Eunice found out that Mugwagwa was promising her false marriage after learning that he had promised two other workmates marriages, and they confronted him.
Mugwagwa refused to comment.
