Spilile Banda Fiona Machoko
A maid of 12 years was over the weekend charged for allegedly stealing US$22 000 from her employer.
The maid, Spilile Banda 55, is being co-charged with the employer’s niece Fiona Machoko, 26.
The two were not asked to plead when they appeared before Harare provincial magistrate Vongai Muchuchuti-Guwuriro.
Machoko is daughter to the complainant Innocent Matengambiri’s sister-in-law.
Circumstances are that last year, Matengambiri who is a car dealer, kept his money in his bedroom but whenever he intended to use the money, about $2000 would go missing.
At first, Matengambiri suspected that it was his wife who was stealing the money as it was the two of them who had access to their bedroom.
Machoko moved out of Matengambiri’s house to live with her other uncle in January and from that moment, there were no shortages and it was then that he realized his niece was involved.
Matengambiri lodged a complaint with the police and upon interrogation, Machoko indicated that the maid had a spare key to his bedroom and whenever the couple was not around, she stole money on several occasions.
She indicated that they were acting in connivance and Banda had already completed building her house in Epworth.
The duo will be back in court today.
