A Nyabira man has been jailed 12 months for planting mbanje.

Clayton Mamvura, 20, of Warley Farm appeared before Chinhoyi Provincial Magistrate Lisa Mutendereki where he pleaded guilty to the charge.

He was sentenced to 12 in prison where three months were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

Mamvura will serve an effective nine months in prison.

Prosecuting, Review Nikisi told the court that on August 18 at around 8am, police officers went to his homestead attending a scene of assault where he was being accused of assaulting one Aleck Viola, a local resident.

Police arrested him in his garden and upon doing so, they discovered 16 plants of dagga in the garden.

Police requested for a license permitting him to plant the dangerous drug but he neither produced one nor gave a satisfactory explanation.

He was charged for unlawful planting of dagga and the police recovered the plants which can be produced in court as exhibit.
