A HARARE man was hauled to court yesterday after he allegedly robbed a taxi driver of his vehicle and cash.
Joseph Mwale was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate, Yeukai Dzuda, who remanded him in custody.
The complainant is Tanatswa Chisvo, who is employed as a pirate taxi driver.
Allegations are that on November 18, last year, Chisvo was driving his car, a Honda Fit, from Chitungwiza headed to Highfield.
He picked up five passengers, who indicated they were going to Highfield.
It is the State’s case that one of the passengers disembarked at the DDF premises and the other dropped off at Mbudzi Roundabout.
Chisvo remained with three passengers in the car.
When they got to Highfield, he was ordered to stop the car by Mwale and his accomplices.
Chisvo complied. That was when he was grabbed by the neck from behind, by Mwale.
The other accused person produced a knife and threatened to cut Chisvo’s throat.
They blindfolded him and one of the accused persons took charge of the car while the others took his Huawei Y6 cellphone and US$60.
They later dumped him at Granville Cemetery and they sped off with his car.
Mwale was arrested after being implicated by his other accused persons.
