A CHITUNGWIZA man has offered to pay US$3 a month in maintenance for his five-month-old baby.
Loward Mpunzi made that offer after being dragged to court by his estranged wife Tatenda Chitsike.
She was demanding US$50 for the upkeep of the baby, arguing that Mpunzi could afford it as he was a vendor who sells all kinds of stuff.
Mpunzi offered US$3.
He said he was not employed and had to leave his vending job after his relatives abandoned him.
“I now carry people’s goods in town to earn money. My relatives abandoned me, so I left my vending job,” said Loward.
He said there was no point in paying maintenance because he wasn’t sure if he was the father of the child.
Presiding magistrate, Ayanda Dlamini, ordered Mpunzi to pay US$10.
