A KUWADZANA man is on the run after raping his niece.
Joseph Chakanyuka is said to have visited his niece, aged 31, during the night, demanding food.
He ended up raping her without protection.
The victim was alone in her room when Joseph arrived and knocked at her door.
When he entered, he sat on the bed near the victim and asked for food.
His niece told him that she had no money to buy vegetables.
Joseph then told her he wanted to spend the night with her and had no intention of going home.
He then raped her and returned to his house.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the case and appealed for information that may lead to Joseph’s arrest.
“Police are investigating a rape case involving relatives in Kuwadzana,” said Insp Chakanza.
“The victim was referred to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital for medical examinations.”
In another case, Tinashe Everly Shonga, 27, was on Monday arrested for raping his neighbour, aged 23, in Kuwadzana.
The two were not in a relationship.
On July 18, at around 2010 hours, Tinashe escorted the victim home from some shops in Kuwadzana 1, where she was self-employed.
On their way home, Tinashe asked for sex and she refused.
He raped her once without protection and then pleaded for forgiveness and requested that they stay together as husband and wife.
She agreed.
The two stayed together and she fell pregnant.
On Monday, she decided to lodge a police report against Tinashe, leading to his arrest.
