HERBERT ‘Jompano’ Maruwa is stamping his authority in the ZIFA Northern Region Division One Soccer League.

He has led Harare City to a five-games unbeaten start in the championship race.

The former Dynamos coach guided his team to an impressive 2-1 win over Black Mambas 2-1 at Motor Action Sports Club at the weekend.

Matthew Murambiwa and Tanaka Dzingai were on target for Maruwa’s men.

“It was a good game for both teams although we started a bit slowly which I believe could have been an issue of fatigue,” said Maruwa.

“We had a tough talk at half-time and we came back stronger in the second half after making some changes.

“It is still work in progress because some of the boys are fairly new to such competition but am happy with the progress of the team.

“We are yet to taste defeat but we need to work hard if we are to extend our winning streak.”

He is being helped by Newsome Mutema who is his assistant coach.

Their next assignment is against Herentals, who just sit behind them on the standings with 13 points.

“We look forward to continue creating our identity and stamping our authority, it will not be a walk in the park but we have to be mentally strong to make it past them,” said Maruwa.

“Our opponents are a strong team, it will definitely not be an easy game.

“The good thing is that the boys are motivated, they are fighting to return to the PSL so we are going all out to make it.”
