Showbiz Talking Points with TeeKay
The 2024 showbiz calendar is in full throttle and buzzing.
The Doek & Slay editions, which are being taken countrywide, are ruling the roost.
The just-ended annual ZITF shutdown gig, Bindura Arts Festival and Alick Macheso’s homecoming party held in Chitungwiza attracted big numbers.
l VARIETY
People have been advocating for diversity and this is now guaranteed.
In the past two weeks, there was almost everything for everyone from comedy, music, visual arts to old-school music.
On Tuesday, the Zimbabwe German Society hosted this year’s International Jazz Day courtesy of Josh Meck and partners comprising Mono Mukundu and Victor.
It was the same night Agga Nyabinde was launching his fourth album titled Honai at 7 Arts.
l MAMPARA OF THE WEEK
My task to crown the Mampara of the Week was made simple, courtesy of reigning Zimbabwe National Cup Clash winner, Mbida D.
After winning the contest on December 23 last year, when he got a BMW and cash, we thought he would become a role model to other chanters.
However, Mbida D shocked his followers when he was caught off-side in a show despite being paid a US$100 deposit by a DZ pub owner.
He was arrested and spent the weekend in cells. Mbida D, who got legal help, is now on US$40 bail.
There are fears he might be copying from the late Soul Jah Love who suffered the same fate.
For his conduct and lack of professionalism, we crown Mbida D Mampara of the Week.
