MBIRA DzeNharia will tonight headline the Friday Culture Day at DMAC Leisure Centre in the capital.

The revered mbira outfit shares the stage with Diana “Mangwenya” Samkange and Chiremba Hwesa, who is backed by Zim Totems.

Mnagwenya, who is the brand ambassador for DMAC Leisure Centre in Lochinvar, said she was elated to be part of the line-up.

The event is also held to commemorate Africa Day as well as the African culture, which is unique in every aspect.

“I’m really excited to be part of this strong line-up not only as their brand ambassador but as a performer as well.

“We noted that our culture was under threat of being eroded and managed to come up with this initiative as mbira artists.

“It has been an amazing journey when I transformed myself from being an urban grooves artist to becoming a complete mbira artist who has grown to be who I am today,” she said.

Mangwenya said it was never too late for people to retrace their roots.

“It’s unfortunate that people want to run away from Chivanhu but we all know that it shapes our future and who we are.

“I will not run away from my culture and I will do my best, as a mbira artist, to promote our culture.

“I am elated that we still have people who value our culture like the management at DMAC, who have come up with this concert as a regular slot for mbira artists who have been yearning for such platforms,” she said.

DMAC Leisure Centre events coordinator, Vimbai Chakanetsa, said it was all systems go.

“Everything is now in place and we are happy to be championing this noble cause.

“We are also committed towards promoting our culture hence we have come up with this event,” said Chakanetsa.

The show starts at 6pm till curfew times.
