SUNDAY CHIDZAMBWA captained the first Warriors side during the Independence celebrations in 1980.
Today, he will be in charge of the senior national team when it plays its first game in more than one-and-half years when they host Namibia as part of the programme during President Mnangagwa’s inauguration at the National Sports Stadium.
It appears this is a clue that Chidzambwa will be in the picture when the next Warriors coach is named ahead of the World Cup qualifiers in November.
“I have been appointed alongside Lizwe Sweswe, the FC Platinum goalkeepers’ trainer Chuma, Highlanders’ trainer Mbayiwa and Wonder Chaka. We look forward to the game.
“As for the rest of the logistics we are yet to confirm through Benedict Moyo,” said Chidzambwa.
Moyo is a member of the new technical team that is assisting the Normalisation Committee led by Lincoln Mutasa.
Highlanders FC defence stalwart Peter Muduhwa and skilful midfielder Brighton Manhire, Chicken Inn’s Shepherd Mhlanga, Godknows Murwira of CAPS United and his teammate Thulani Joseph may be affected by the fact that their teams were in action yesterday.
Highlanders clashed with Chicken Inn in a Bulawayo derby at Barbourfields.
CAPS United were in Gweru for a bruising tie against Black Rhinos in the Midlands.
