The Mighty Warriors team manager Tafadzwa Basera has confirmed that players are expected to troop in camp today to start the COSAFA Women’s Championship preparations.
The regional tournament is scheduled to start from September 28 to October 9.
Mighty Warriors will get the ball rolling on September 29 when they face the guest nation Tanzania.
In an interview with H-Metro Sport, Basera acknowledged that the bulk of the players expected in camp are from Black Rhinos Queens.
“We are happy to announce that we are starting our preparations today. We have communicated with the girls and some are expected to be in camp today while others will join us as we proceed. It is also important to know that we are bringing in more players from Black Rhinos Queens who participated in the just ended CAF Women Champions league-COSAFA qualifier.
“There are going to be some additions to the squad. We are adding two or three youngsters and of course our Captain Emmaculate Msipa who is also in the country.
“It is very unfortunate that we do not have as many players as we would have wanted for selection as local football was halted due to the dreadful pandemic. It is difficult for the girl-child to just shake off the rust and go.
“We are likely going to announce our final squad maybe two weeks from now.
“Danai Bhobho is expected in camp anytime soon as she is still in Tanzania together with our fitness trainer Brenda Chaora,” said Basera
She, however, expressed gratitude to Farai Dhliwayo of Legends Football Academy whom she convinced to solicit the Hellenic Sports Club training ground where they will conduct their sessions.
The Mighty Warriors are in Group B with Botswana and guests nations South Sudan and Tanzania.
