GOSPEL musician, Everton Mlalazi, has won the Africa Male Gospel Artist of the Year award courtesy of CLIMA Africa Awards 2023.
The event, which was held in Nigeria, saw the singer emerging the winner of the voting process which started on August 20 and ended on September 20.
Mlalazi was nominated for two huge awards, The African Gospel Artist of the Year and Africa Male Gospel Artist Of The Year.
He battled with Mercy Chinwo, Mr M & Revelations and Moses Bliss, all from Nigeria, in the category.
For the Africa Best Male Gospel Artist of the Year category, which he won, he faced stiff competition from Joe Mettle from Ghana, Dunsin Oyekan, Nathaniel Bassey, Moses Bliss, Testimoney Jaga Peterson Okopi, all from Nigeria.
He posted on his IG page after winning.
“We won this one fam. Thank you for your support and thank you for voting.”
Prior to his nomination, he was excited by just the nomination.
“I am so excited just for the nomination. It is such an honour to represent my country in Lagos.”
The singer is credited with uniting gospel musicians across Africa.
These include Soweto Gospel Choir, Benjamin Dube, Janet Manyowa, Minister Michael Mahendere and Ntokozo Mbambo, among others.
In the past, he has been nominated for Africa Arts Entertainment Awards, Bulawayo Arts and Matebeleland Awards.
The Ndomutevera hitmaker had a good year with Ndomutevera and Bambelela topping the end-of-year chart shows across all radio stations in Zimbabwe.
Through his music, Mlalazi has created a vibrant gospel sound that is inspired by his love for worship and childhood musical influence.
He has collaborated with Ladysmith Black Mambazo, a Grammy award-winning South African male choral group on the duet Nomakunje.

He is currently trending on social media platforms with his Hymns album and Apo Mambo has been the song of the moment.
He has staged performances in Zambia, Nigeria, South Africa and United Kingdom.
