CHICKEN Inn 2018 Soccer Star of the Year finalist Innocent Muchaneka has finally extended his stay at the club, ending speculation on his future.
Muchaneka had a contract standoff with Gamecocks as he was tipped to join South African side Baroka FC following the expiry of his contract.
H-Metro understands the contract had a clause which gives the Bulawayo side the rights to trigger more years.
The midfielder missed the team’s offseason trip to Malawi as he went AWOL in what was perceived as a move to force a move.
The player then showed up in a Bulawayo derby against Highlanders where he scored in their 4-0 win.
Chicken Inn spokesperson Tavengwa Hara confirmed the development.
“Yes, Muchaneka has extended his stay with us. He has always been our player. We know his contributions will make us richer.
“He is a player whose value we all know and we don’t doubt his abilities.
“Everyone is happy with the deal and we are looking forward to a brighter future together,” said Hara.
Chicken Inn have been busy on the market that saw them roping in nine new faces.
They have signed former Ngezi Platinum trio of Clive Augusto, Donovan Bernard and Tichaona Chipunza, and Valentine Kadonzvo, Brett Amidu, Phakamani Dube and Panashe Mutasa from Dynamos.
With the experience they already have, Hara believes they have the talent to achieve a top two finish.
“We want to improve from what we did last season. We are going for a top two finish.
“With all the efforts we have put to improve our squad this year, we are expecting a better result from it.
“We have to show that we are improving and we don’t want to retain the third position. Our preparations are going on well and we are on the right track,” added Hara.
