PREPARATIONS for the Mufakose bodybuilding and modelling contests, set for September 23 at Rutendo Hall, have gathered momentum.
Mr and Ms Mufakose Bodybuilding and Modelling contest was revived last year through a trust that is seeking to revive both the sport and the Mufakose community gym.
One of the organisers, Masarira “General” Silingwani said all was now in place to host the event for the second year running.
“We are happy to announce that preparations to host the second edition of the Mr and Ms Mufakose Bodybuilding and Modelling contest at Rutendo community gym are now at an advanced stage.
“The registration has started and we are happy that we are receiving some good responses. We are grateful to City of Harare for availing to us Rutendo Hall, which we are going to use.
“The community hall was known as the home of champions after many big names passed through and using it as our host place will inspire a lot of athletes.
“Rutendo Hall has produced some big names like Garikai Mwale, who was the first black man to win the Mr Mashonaland title, and then came names like Innocent Choga, George Takundwa and Clyde Mutero, former wrestler Oliver Tengende and Rangarirai Hunda, who are all former champions in their own right.
“The trust has gained the confidence of some individuals and business people from the Mufakose community like New Horizon Pharmacy and LM Auctions.
“The committee, however, still have some challenges as most of the athletes still need grooming and how to present themselves on the stage.
“We still have challenges with models who have passion but can’t afford to match the standards of their various categories,” added Salingwani.
